4 Dental Solutions to Restore or Replace Missing and Damaged Teeth

Experiencing tooth loss or damage? Three Rivers Dental Group is here to help. From crowns to bridges, dentures or dental implants, we offer several dental solutions for lasting smiles. Learn more about our top dental service options available to restore or replace missing and damaged teeth.

1.  Teeth Crowns

Teeth requiring repair due to extensive damage by decay are good candidates for restoration with crowns. A crown is most often needed when teeth have experienced breaks, weakness or fracture, or when existing tooth structure can no longer support a filling. Crowns can also resolve brittle teeth for patients who have received root canals. Patients who require a bridge due to tooth loss may also require crowns on adjacent teeth to support replacement teeth. This aesthetic solution strengthens the bite and contours teeth to their natural shape and size. Learn more about crowns by watching this video from the ADA Dental Minute.

For some patients who have wiggling or severely damaged teeth with crowns, it is likely tooth structure has weakened to the point where teeth can no longer be supported by bone. For these special cases, we do not recommend fixing a failing tooth. When redoing a crown is not enough, consider long term solutions to replace teeth, including bridges, dentures or dental implants.

2.  Dental Bridge

Bridges connect patients to perfect smiles. A bridge consists of two crowned teeth on either side of a missing tooth gap, and a false tooth or teeth in between. It offers support and stability for missing teeth and connects to neighboring teeth.

There are four types of dental bridges. Traditional bridges are the most popular dental bridge type, followed by cantilever bridges, resin-bonded bridges and implant-supported bridges. A bridge can be anchored to adjacent teeth and can be removable or fixed depending on the needs of your mouth and your dentist’s recommendation. It can correct an altered bite and maintain the shape of your face by preventing facial collapse or wrinkling of facial features due to tooth loss. If you are considering a bridge as a dental solution, schedule an appointment with Three Rivers Dental Group for an oral health assessment to identify which bridge type is right for you.

3.  Partial and Complete Dentures

Tooth loss can affect day-to-day tasks like speaking and chewing, and without proper replacement, tooth loss can lead to vitamin and nutrient deficiencies or malnutrition. Patients who have lost all natural teeth due to gum disease, tooth decay or injury can benefit from dentures. They closely resemble natural teeth and improve smiles. At Three Rivers Dental Group, we customize each denture for every patient. Our dentures are crafted with high-quality materials to ensure a natural look and comfortable fit. Whether you are a first time denture wearer or replacing your existing denture, we’ll design a beautiful new smile for you. We offer Flexi Fit partial dentures and Comfy Fit Dentures. Visit our Dentures/Partials page to learn more about our design process and how to properly care for dentures.

4. Dental Implants

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots made to match natural teeth. A dental implant is a post surgically implanted into the jaw, with a prosthesis (artificial tooth or teeth) attached to the post. They provide a strong foundation for permanently fixed or removable replacement teeth and allow easier access between teeth for brushing, flossing and rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash. Unlike a bridge, dental implants do not require the alteration of nearby teeth to support the implant. In fact, more natural teeth are left intact, improving long-term oral health and natural looking smiles. Dental implants do not decay or require root canals, preserving the integrity of existing teeth. They do not require the maintenance of dentures, and cannot be misplaced or lost. An implant feels and acts like a natural tooth when chewing and brushing teeth.
